How to enter

1. Send your  interpretation of  “Are you wild enough to be in the Buff®!” through either a picture  or a  Buff® designed by yourself ( either a drawing or graphic design will be fine).

2. The interpretation in either the design or an image will be your entry to the competition. You may only send in one entry. If you choose to design a Buff®, you are welcome to include the 25th Rhodes Run anniversary date, and should it be good enough it might be considered as a design to use for the 2013 Rhodes Trail Run Buff®!  Please also note that the image must be of the entrant himself/herself.

3. Please email your entries to marketing@adventureinc.co.za no later than 01 May 2012

4. Two winners will be picked  from all the entries and be handed an invitation to the Rhodes Trail Run which on the 14 July 2012.

The organization of the Absa Cape Epic is well under way.  Adventure Inc attended the media launch in Cape Town and the gala evening at the prestigious Turbine Hall in Johannesburg during the month of October. The Absa Cape Epic team, lead by founder and newly-wed Kevin Vermaak proudly unveiled their new logo which “marks an evolution of the Absa Cape Epic Brand” says Vermaak. Although met with a mixed response from the traditional Cape Epic Die-Hards, Kevin assured that it is a necessary element to change to ensure the success and development of the Absa Cape Epic into an internationally acclaimed Mountain Bike Race.

The anticipation for the 2012 route designed by the legendary Dr Evil was received with wide eyes and is sure to meet or even exceed its reputation as the Magical and untamed African Mountain Bike race. Leon Evans, aka Dr Evil,  remarks “it is my mission to not make the ride an easier!” and “Stage three is the most challenging stage of the 2012 Race, it is very rocky and bumpy!”.  Vermaak also proudly introduced the new official apparel sponsor, Craft, from Sweden which is distributed in South Africa by the Bicycle Company.

The prologue kicks off on Sunday the 25 March at the Meerendal wine estate in Durbanville, Cape Town and ends on the 1^st April at the Lourensford Wine Estate. As an official Race partner Buff® will be present during the race, but where and when will only be revealed next year!

This year Adventure Inc teamed up with Cape Union Mart and ran an educational but fun Movember campaign, where fans were encouraged to post pictures of their sprouting Mo’s or Mo inspirations during the month of November. The aim of Movember is to raise vital funds and awareness for Men’s Health, specifically in South Africa for prostate and testicular cancer. Mo Bros become “walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health” (www.movember.co.za).

Various categories were decided each week, from the Mo with the Mo’st colour to the Mo’st Real Mo and Mo’st stylish Mo, with all entries judged by Cape Union Mart and all prizes exclusively from Cape Union Mart stores. We were very impressed with the efforts of fans and support of the campaign, and overall it was a great success. A big thank you to Cape Union Mart,  to all the fans who participated in making it a great success  and congratulations to all the winners, especially to Justin Lawson and Blake Tucker for winning the Sea to Summit eVAC Dry Sack and Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Day Pack and Bomber tie down respectively for the “Mo-st me-Mo-rable Mo’s!

Ever felt like quitting your job and taking a year off traveling to a remote destination fulfilling a life-long dream? Well then we hope you did not watch any films exhibited at The Banff Mountain Film Festival in November this year! The Banff Mountain Film Festival showcases the talents of the world’s finest adventure filmmakers presented by Cape Union Mart. In 1986, the Banff Centre began an outreach programme to bring the tour to other communities across the world, and this is how it reached our shored. As Buff® was one of the partners of the festival we had the opportunity of attending the fantastically organized pre-screening launch held at the Freeworld Design Centre which was enthusiastically received by the media and adventure junkies alike. Great nibbles followed by a seven movie line was up was a real treat and judging the audience’s engagement, an absolute success.

Whether following a fly fishing team and dodging super-bugs, fat mouse eating trout, bears and Big Foot in the untouched Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, or plunging into damp caves and squeezing through head sized holes, or following the courageous heart of the quest to break the record of the highest waterfall drop, the Banff Mountain Film festival always has something for everyone. Don’t forget to get inspired and keep an eye out for the Banff Mountain Film Festival 2012, you are sure to find what you are looking for.

The 94.7 Cycle Challenge Expo which has been running for 14 years now, was held at the swanky Sandton Convention Centre from the 17-19 November. This year was chock-a-block with a variety of superb cycling associated stores and attracted thousands of riders and visitors. Adventure Inc exhibited for the 7th year in a row, setting up a Buff® stand which attracted cyclists wanting protection from the sun and wind as well as seeking cushioning from hours of helmet wearing. “It is such a great way to get involved with the cyclists and demonstrate the functional benefits of Buff® Headwear says Leo Rust, sales manager of Adventure Inc. ”

The picturesque Waterfall Country Estate was the home of the Cycle challenge for the 4^th year running and has grown in popularity over the years due to its superb organization and of course the joy of being able to ride without the concern of speeding cars.

It all began in 1996 with the idea of “creating a world-class mass participation sporting event that would touch the heart of Joburg and capture the city’s competitive temperament” (http://bit.ly/tSkvKN). Their slogan, “The toughest race for The Toughest People” created enormous hype and motivated the people of Johannesburg to overcoming the challenge with friends and family.
